Who is my Totem?
Animals and birds have been visiting me for a couple years now. Many in my dreams and much more in person. They always have a message for me. I have heard it said that your lifelong Animal totem can be an obvious thing. It has not been for me. When they come it is usually in droves. For days, weeks or months at a time they come. They come within 6 ft. of me and visit sometimes up to 3 hrs. They even allow me to take photos. Bear, Eagle,Owl,Flicker. You name it. Dreams include being dropped by Redtail Hawk as he carries me in his talons. I am Rattlesnake dropped from his talons to the dirt beside another. I must convince this rattlesnake I am one or be bitten. I passed the test. I have been slammed into a pack of wolves by a Native Spirit man and made to fight and defeat a shadow wolf. I did. Redtail hawk has taken me out of dreams when the fear is great. I know I can call on him.White Bear has come in my dreams. These are just a few. I can’t figure out who is my totem. There must be one but All stand out. I study and honor all that come. I accept the medicine they offer but still have to wonder who my Totem actually is.

I am spiritual but can’t see the path ahead of me…
Thank you for sharing your experience about how the great brown bear gives you bravery. I have had lots of losses in the last couple of years and I am very spiritual but can’t see the path ahead of me. I was told that someone would be riding on a big brown bear this spring to help me. What form of symbolism do you think this may come as and do you have any thoughts on how I can have excitement about an unknown future.

Whenever tragic loss occurs, you either resist or you yield. Some people become bitter or deeply resentful; others become compassionate, wise and loving. Yielding means inner acceptance of what is. You are open to life. Resistance is an inner contraction, a hardening of the shell of the ego. You are closed. Whatever action you take in a state of resistance (which we could also call negativity), will create more outer resistance, and the universe will not be on your side, life will not be helpful. If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in.
When you yield internally, when you surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up. If action is possible or necessary, your action will be aligned with and supported by the creative intelligence that you become one with. Circumstances and people then become helpful and cooperative. Coincidences happen in your favour. If no action is possible, you rest with the peace and inner contentment that comes with surrender. The inner joy that you feel is far more gratifying than the excitement to which you refer.

Music therapy may increase response to antidepressants…
I have been dealing with depression (possibly bipolar) for years. Is there anything you can recommend?
Rob M.
Hi Rob,
First, let me be clear that since I am not your physician, I cannot legally – nor ethically – give you specific recommendations without seeing you as a patient first. However, here are some general guidelines that may help point you in the right direction. Before self-prescribing anything, I would always recommend a consultation with your Naturopathic Doctor.
St. John’s wort has been extensively studied in Europe over the last two decades, with more recent research in the United States. Short-term studies (one to three months) suggest that St. John’s wort is more effective than placebo (sugar pill), and equally effective as tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depressive disorder. Comparisons to the more commonly prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants, such as fluoxetine (Prozac) or sertraline (Zoloft), are more limited. However, other data suggest that St. John’s wort may be just as effective as SSRIs with fewer side effects. Since numerous adverse drug interactions are possible, caution is advised, when taking St. John’s wort.
Another one is 5-HTP, which may help balance serotonin in the body. Serotonin is the brain chemical associated with sleep, mood, movement, eating and nervousness. While cells outside the brain, such as platelets in the blood and some cells in the intestine, produce and utilize serotonin, all serotonin used by brain cells must be made within the neurons themselves. When serotonin is not properly constructed within the brain, the result can be irritability, aggression, impatience, anxiety and depression. The results of numerous studies in humans suggest that 5-HTP may aid in the treatment of depression. Again, numerous drug interations are possible, so exercise caution.
Music has been referred to as an ancient tool of healing. Many different forms of music intervention have been used to reduce depression and anxiety in a variety of medical conditions and medical procedures. There is evidence that music therapy may increase responsiveness to antidepressant medication. In elderly adults with depression, a home-based program of music therapy may have long-lasting effects for mood enhancement. In depressed adult women, music therapy may lead to reductions in heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and depressed mood. Music therapy is generally known to be safe.
While the above are geared to the depressive phase, for the manic phase, you can try things like GABA, which can be found alone or in products like Inno-Beauty Sleep. GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, and while it hasn’t been extensively studied for the manic phase of bipolar disorder, theoretically, it makes a lot of sense. It’s great for calming the mind without being a sedative, and therefore, used in cases of insomnia, stress, and even to assist in meditation.

Children and Spirit…my Other Mommy
Who is more open to the workings of spirit than young children? They live their lives weaving between the real world and their world of make believe, often finding it hard to differentiate between one and the other. Because of this, we often dispel the stories they share, or tune out their garbled chatter with special friends unseen by our human eyes.
They say that children are especially receptive in the years prior to school age. This is because they haven’t had too much outside influence to plant seeds of doubt, seeds that will take root and spread through their consciousness for years to come.
Our daughter, her spouse and their two children were renting a particular home for over two years. When they decided to move closer into town our Grandson Owen was understandably upset, after all, he was just three and a half years old, so he had spent the major part of his life there.
On a daily basis Owen asked to go back to his other home, and whenever they drove past the place he would cry and cry, begging them to pull into the driveway. One particular day as they drove by his eyes welled up with tears, “I miss my other mommy”, he said. When his mother asked him what he was talking about, Owen went on to tell her about his “other mommy”. He said that she lived in their old home and she was there all the time.
Owens’ “other mommy” would sit on the edge of his bed, and she frequently told him stories about her two boys. This was confirmed by Owens’ sister, who said that she had seen the woman as well. Owen went on to say that he missed talking with his “other mommy”, and that she was nice to him, but she was sad too.
We could have sloughed this off as Owen having an imaginary friend, but what a loss that would have been. For an investigation has provided us with some interesting information. Before our daughter moved into the home, a couple and their two boys had lived there. The mother had died about a year or so prior of an aneurism, it happened quickly and unexpectedly.
So who was this special friend of Owens’? Was she imaginary, or was she spirit? There is no doubt in my mind. Now my focus is to ensure the door stays open, so our grandchildren can continue to be receptors for spirit and other phenomena. I can only imagine the wonders they’ll share.
Children and Spirit column is a forum for sharing our children’s experiences, to learn and grow from them, and yank out a few roots of doubt along the way. To share your child’s story please e-mail publisher@truebluespirit.ca
Healing with Spirit
I started to take a keen interest in spiritualism 16 years ago. I read every book I could find and took several courses. After taking these courses which were from very qualified people, during a period of three years, I just could not make the connection and was ready to give up.
Then I met a person who was giving a trance demonstration on healing. The spirit that was talking through this person told me how I could go out and heal. Ever since that time I have been able to heal people under any conditions and in any place.
The type of healing I do is referred to as spiritual healing. I work with those in spirit to channel energy to those being healed.
To help explain this, consider the ignition system of a car. There is the battery which leads to the distributor which has electrical wires that lead to the spark plugs. The spirit energy is the battery and I am the electrical wires or the conduit that connects to the spark plug.
I do healing on people, animals, and plants. Basically I work on anything that needs healing.
Rather than use my own energy which can be very depleting I channel energy from the source. Not necessarily a divine source, but from an alternate source.
Alternative healing uses a channel and most often there is one person in spirit that works through them. I have several spirit workers, and I never know which person in spirit is going to work through me at any given time.
This type of work allows me to do distant healing for people around the world. One example of such healing was for a woman in Idaho who had brain cancer and was given less then a week to live. Working with another healer we did spiritual healing for about 30 minutes.
We felt ourselves traveling all the way to Idaho and we could even see the hospital and the woman in her bed. We had never met this woman in person.
About a month or so later, I received a call from the woman. After the fact, she was told about our healing, and decided to contact me with the good news. The day after the healing, they had done a brain scan and there was no more cancer. This is a wonderful feeling knowing that through spirit you have helped someone.
There are many ways to conduct healing. Just to name a few there are trance state, magnetic healing, distant or absent healing, crystal healing, native healing using smudging, drumming and a healing wand to pass energy, and of course prayer.
The principles of alternative healing are basically the same throughout the world and with all peoples. The one common thread throughout the various cultures is that they all know the power of healing comes from the creator.

Does numerology apply to my dogs as well?
I have 2 questions. 1) I read about #5 in the Volume 2 – 3rd issue. Though my character is very much like #5, my ruling # is 4. Is this like being on the cusp? 2) Does numerology apply to my dogs as well?
Delores W.
Hi Delores,
1.) Yes it is possible to reach for the freedom of the #5, but I feel it more likely that your “day” number is a 5, or the #5 figures prominently in your name analysis. If you would like this information, you can connect with me via email for a proper profile.
2.) As far as dogs or any other domestic pets go, I feel they all have the same life purpose and that is to be our “teachers” in all fields relating to compassion, selflessness, patience, play and sensitivity; coming here to offer their love and companionship and we are blessed by their presence in our lives. Thank you for your question Delores and may God bless you and yours.

Native teachings and Shamanism – Ask an Elder
Jo-Anne asked,
I’ve been interested in Native teachings and Shamanism for sometime. I’m wondering if you know someone that I might apprentice with? My son is also interested in finding a teacher.
Thanks
Seeking authentic coastal native shamanistic information is like tryingto catch a hand full of smoke. I have had the good fortune to meet and be trained by one person whom I believe is a shaman, properly trained by his grandmother, who had little contact and influence from other cultures. His ability in using the cosmic evergy of the universe is absolutley amazing, and beyond my comprehension, because he learned the in the old way, as a child from his granny, with no written word. These secrets are closely guarded and passed on by word of mouth, so are doomed to be lost forever. My limited knowledge comes from researching, discarding and tuning in to the ancestors and ancients in the spirit realm. Any of this information I am happy to share. I too, am a student on a learning quest. My mission is to strive to heal the body, mind and soul, of the 2 legged, 4 legged, the winged ones, the swimmers and this wobbly little planet that we share, I do what I can, with love as a motivator.

Water is a very important part in developing our intuition
Water is very much a part of us; in fact we are about 62% water, (an amount that varies depending on our age). Thanks to the wonderful books and research done by Dr. Masaru Emoto, we now understand that our connection with water goes far deeper than we could have imagined.
Water is a very important part in developing our intuition. Not only is it physically healthy to drink a lot of water, it also helps with your extra sensory perception.
I’m going to share three key instances in my life (condensed versions) where water played a key role in the use of my intuitive or psychic receptors.
#1
I had just been out to PEI to see my Father the week before. He had cancer of the pancreas.
Getting back into the swing of work I was heading over to Langley, BC. I was just crossing over the Port Mann Bridge when I felt the presence of my Father. When I say I felt his presence, the only way to describe it is that it felt like I was him and what I was feeling was fear.
I knew right away that the time for him to pass to spirit was here, and he was afraid to take the final step. I remember speaking out loud and asking for an angel to be with him and not to let him be afraid. In the passing of a breath the fear was gone, and I knew my father was too.
When I arrived to my hotel I called his hospital room. My sister answered. “You heard”, she said.
“No…I know”, I responded.
#2
Several years passed and I was heading from Tsawassen to Richmond for a planning meeting with my boss. I was just going under the Massey Tunnel when words came through clear as a bell, “You are going to lose your job”.
I gave my head a shake, but as I continued to drive along I analyzed the words and the voice that said them. Something was telling me to listen.
I’d been working with this corporation for almost 15 years and I knew the drill. If I arrived and only my boss was there, we were having our planning meeting. If she had someone else with her, then I knew the writing was on the wall. And it was.
Having received the clear message didn’t stop me from losing the job, but it did prepare me for what was to come. And this allowed me to make conscious decisions that I would not have done if I had been caught by surprise.
#3
My third scenario happened not even two years later. I was having a leisurely soak in the bathtub when I clearly saw a woman in spirit. This woman was a stranger to me.
When I first saw her, my knee jerk reaction was to gasp and look away, but I managed to stop myself. I took a couple of deep breaths and started to ask her who she was.
I was able to get her name and the name of the person she had a message for. Later I was able to pass her message on.
I am not saying that you have to soak in a tub or hang out on a bridge to develop your intuition or your psychic ability. However, water does play an important role so being well hydrated is beneficial and can certainly help strengthen connections. You’ll notice that many mediums keep a glass of water in hand when relaying messages from spirit.
Drinking pure clear water not only helps your body in a physical way, it helps you psychically as well.
As you focus on your intuitive development, replace some of that coffee, tea or juice you drink daily with nature’s pure clear channel to spirit…and beyond.

Happy New Year
Many blessings for yet another fabulous year ahead

Hello Dorothy and all of our wonderful readers.
As we head into the new year I am reminded of how grateful I feel to each and every one of you for picking up the True Blue Spirit magazine and sharing your comments with us.
I can’t begin to count how many people have thanked me for the articles or how many have said how much they have helped them in one way or another. At times I have doubts that what I am doing is really making a difference and if it weren’t for your comments and the animals gently nudging me to keep expanding and sharing I probably wouldn’t be doing what I am today. So a huge thank you to you all for who you are and what you share.
The animals around us all thank you too!
Many blessings for yet another fabulous year ahead,
Stephanie
